For the first time in 15 years a group of Danish food companies exhibited their products at the Summer Fancy Food Fair in New York Javits Center on June 26-28 2016.
The fair took place for the 62nd time and is the largest specialty food trade show in North America.
The entire United States is represented, as well as about 35 foreign countries & regions. With a total of 180.000 products and more than 46.000 representatives from around the world the Summer Fancy Food Fair is the biggest of its kind in North America.
In lieu of a potential TTIP agreement, the agreement between EU-US would increase market access and consolidation of rules across the Atlantic. Danish participation at the fair seeks to help implement the Danish government’s volume-market-strategy for the US market, which includes specific focus on the retail sector. The stand was organized by the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, in collaboration with the Trade Council USA (TC USA).
The US food market offers great opportunities for Danish food producers due to the driving agents of food safety, transparency and traceability and healthy food including organic and natural products. The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA ) is in the process of reforming and updating its food law for the first time in 70 years known as “The Food Safety Modernization Act” (FSMA). All companies wishing to export to the U.S. will over the next 1-2 years be required to meet the new rules for export / import laid down by the FSMA.
The seminar that took place in relation to the Fancy Food Fair was an opportune moment to inform the Danish companies of the on-going current legal changes.
