After reshuffling three positions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Denmark has now appointed the new Ambassador to the United States. On March 24^th 2015 it was announced that the Danish Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy Advisor, Lars Gert Lose, is replacing Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen, who is being transferred to New Delhi, India.

In October last year the Danish Foreign Ministry appointed Denmark’s ambassador to the EU, Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, as the replacement for Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen, who has been Denmark’s ambassador to the U.S. since September 2010. However, when Tranholm-Mikkelsen accepted the position as the next secretary-general of the EU Council of Ministers on March 19th, the Foreign Ministry had to look for a new suitable candidate. The Foreign Ministry decided to rearrange three positions and, besides the U.S., two new ambassadors were appointed in Ghana and Croatia. Head of Department for Technical Advisory Services (TAS) to the MFA, Tove Degnbol, will be the new ambassador to Ghana and Anders Christian Hougaard, now the ambassador to Iran, will take over the position as ambassador to Croatia. The redeployments are expected to come into action on August 15^th 2015 (July 1^st for Ghana).

Lars Gert Lose has a long carrier within the Danish Foreign Ministry. He started his carrier in 1997 by becoming Head of the EU Coordination Office. Since then, he has possessed a range of high-level positions within the MFA: such as Private Secretary to Minister for Foreign Affairs Per Stig Møller (2004-2008); Head of the Foreign Minister’s Office (2008-2011) and, most recently, as Permanent Under-Secretary of State, where he served as Chief Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Lars Gert Lose is 45 years old and has a Masters Degree in Political Science from Aarhus University.
